Archaeological Site of Largo Sant’Anna
The site of Largo Sant'Anna is characterised by the remains of a Roman domus datable between the end of the republican age and the early empire (1st century B.C.) and the remains of the Cathedral Sanctae Mariae Aprutiense above it.
The rooms of the Roman domus are arranged around an inner four-sided portico (atrium or peristyle) with a basin in opus incertum. The rooms are paved in battutto with geometric decorations in black tesserae with plasters painted in the Pompeian III style.
The ancient cathedral has a three-nave basilica development with a central apse and white marble slab flooring.
It was burnt down and destroyed during the Norman siege in the 12th century; important portions of tracery-decorated transennae from the 8th-9th century have been recovered.
The archaeological site in Largo Sant'Anna will be open to the public on the occasion of the Let's get Lost events organised by the Music By Eder association, as part of the Teramo Natura Indomita festival.
